Jen Chau Cleversquirrel unearths money you may not know you had

Hidden in many investment, pension and insurance policies are charges that can be claimed by an adviser. If you don't have an adviser for your policy, you're paying for something and getting nothing. Your money stays with the financial institution and cannot be cancelled or refunded. Cleversquirrel reclaims these charges and donates them to your chosen charity, making the most of money you've already paid. All it takes is one signature from you. Charities Trust, a national donation management ag… Continue

Syd Barrett Fund Date in History: Interstellar Overdrive First Demoed on This Day

Users of the Social Arts Network may well be aware of this already, but for those who didn't know, October 31 is a significant date in Floyd history, drawn to the attention of SANe members by UFO, who writes: "Pink Floyd’s 'Interstellar Overdrive' is one of the very first psychedelic instrumental improvisations recorded by a rock band. It was seen as Pink Floyd's first foray into space rock, along with “Astronomy Domine”. "This riff originated when early Pink Floyd manager Peter Jenner was try… Continue

Syd Barrett Fund Syd to Feature in December Issue of The London Magazine

An introduction article on Syd Barrett as an artist is to appear in the next issue of The London Magazine. Author of the article Will Shute says of his work: “Presuming the reader not to know that Syd Barrett was a painter, and not to know, perhaps, who he was at all, the article is an introduction to the subject of him as a painter. I have long been interested in him, but more and more it has become apparent to me that, since he considered himself to be a painter, not a musician, this could or… Continue

Its one year on from the first event in the City Wakes opening, an exhibition of work by Storm Thorgerson which ran for one month. Other events to take place during the tribute event to Syd Barrett in 2008 included performances of his music by people who experience issues with their own mental health, talks by people who knew Syd, tours of landmarks in Cambridge that were significant in Syd’s life and music workshops. Unique Futuristic Oasis (UFO) The Phenomenon of Man, Earth's Organic Work of Art

The Phenomenon of Man (Le Phénomène Humain, 1955) is a non-fiction book written by French philosopher, paleontologist and Jesuit priest Pierre Teilhard de Chardin. In this work, Teilhard describes evolution as a process that leads to increasing complexity, culminating in the unification of consciousness. Syd Barrett Fund Social Networking

Social networking is, as the name might imply, a damn fine way for us to get the message out about the activities of the Syd Barrett Fund, but then you know that, not least as you’re reading this blog. We’ve had a Twitter page for a while, but, not entirely surprisingly, it’s been a bit like pulling teeth to drag the follower numbers up. That said, I still think it’ll prove useful. So, if you use Twitter and haven’t done so yet, follow us here.Continue

Syd Barrett Fund The Syd Barrett Centre Has A Name

Just a quick bit of housekeeping type news to start the week. As you probably know by now, the long-term goal of the Syd Barrett Fund is to create an arts centre in Cambridge, named in Syd’s memory. Up to now, both in the office and in publicity material, we’ve been rather vaguely referring to this as The Syd Barrett Centre for the Arts, or other slight variations. So as to best reflect what the centre is for, and with the Social Arts Network in mind, we’re going to be calling this project fr… Continue

What is SANe?

Think of SANe as a meta- network, an adhocracy, for people, organisations and other networks that are working in the field of arts and social action. The only requirement for joining SANe is that you have an interest in the arts as a means for raising awareness: a way of groping towards a collective super-ego or social mind.

SANe is supported by the Syd Barrett Fund which, amongst other things, is working towards the creation of the Syd Barrett Social Arts Centre in Cambridge, UK. More...

Our next fundraising event will be a walk from London to Cambridge. Want to come along? Find out more...

SANe, the Social Arts Network, exists to facilitate communication between people who are interested in the development of socially inclusive arts practice, services, exhibitions and productions. The network is managed by

Escape Artists but it is open to everyone. Please feel free to upload your photos, videos, music and research papers, or to start your own forum or group.

Games for Actors and Non-Actors by Augusto Boal

It's a good idea to put your photos into an album as soon as you upload them; it makes them easier to find and gives them a context. And we'd be grateful if everyone could add either a picture of themselves or a company logo to their profile. SANe Books

Visit the SANe bookstore for a great range of books on socially inclusive arts. A percentage of any book sale made through SANe is donated to Escape Artists (UK registered charity no. 1086004) and helps to pay for the costs of managing this network.

Recommend books that you think other SANe members might be interested in.
