Walking Syd Barrett's Cambridge

We’ve often plugged the I-Spy Syd in Cambridge tours on this blog and our other promotional places, but for me Saturday was the first chance I’ve had to attend one. It just so happened that we’d picked a day which was also International student graduation day at Cambridge University. There were also a number of hen parties out in force, giving the amusing clash of styles between graduation gowns and bunny ears. I’m not sure which thought amused me most, tapping one of the proud parents on the…See More

November

This update will hopefully put you in the picture about where all our various projects are at the moment. The headline news is that a City Wakes-style event in London in November is now not going to happen. This is due to funding being very difficult to come by. We’re aware this will be disappointing news, and hope that by announcing this now you won’t have the inconvenience of making plans only for a cancellation decision to be made nearer the time. We apologise for getting the expectation…See More

Widely seen as a musical genius, he was an undisputed pioneer of the sixties underground psychedelic scene, and remains a source of unrelenting fascination for music journalists and fans alike. SANe is supported by the Syd Barrett Fund which, amongst other things, is working towards the creation of the Syd Barrett Social Arts Centre in Cambridge, UK.

Escape Artists and the Insect Circus Take Over The Cambridge Botanic Gardens

Posted on October 28, 2010 at 15:16 0 Comments

A five-foot wasp was spotted playing the cymbals in-between the trees of the Cambridge University Botanic Garden earlier this month. But visitors had no cause for alarm - the giant bugs with their musical instruments were The Grasshopper’s Green Herbarian Band.

Students from the Red Balloon Learner Centre in Cambridge, which specialises in the education of severely bullied children, spent a day at the Garden disguised as giant insects. Professional performers worked together with ten… Continue

An exhibition of Syd Barrett Fund patron Mick Rock’s photography is coming to the Idea Generation Gallery in East London this November.

Celebrated as ‘The Man Who Shot the 70s’, Mick Rock’s images define rock n’ roll. Rock launched his career in 1972 with his portrait of an unknown David Bowie and has spent the last four decades capturing the most fascinating and exciting characters in rock music.

Coinciding with the publication of Mick's new book, Exposed: Faces of Rock n'…
