About Me:
Mark Edward is nationally renowned for creating work that has a very distinct personal and choreographic signature. His dance theatre work has a specific quirky language that combines dark humour, irony and parody. His choreographic ‘style’ fuses a range of art forms together in order to allow for a varied performance aesthetic. Mark is known for his hilarious ‘playfulness’ and his wicked sense of humour which transfers into his choreography. This has ranged from 7ft rabbits invading the performance space; handbags falling from ‘grace’; huge trampolines; dancing nuns; drag artists as 1950’s usherettes; electronic scooters en mass; fire works; bingo callers; original 90 year old Vaudeville performers; 2ft stiletto heal shoes; grand pianos with their own ‘personality’ and a dance language that reaps a fresh insight. He has created a series of works for a broad base of dance companies; community groups; showcase arenas and commissioned educational environments as ‘artist in residence’. Each choreographic work Mark creates his visually rich and defies a specific ‘category’.

Mark has collaborated/worked for Rambert Dance Company (Ballet Rambert), Penny Arcade (Andy Warhol film 'star') in her seminal work 'Bad Reputation', Senza Tempo Dance Theatre Company Barcelona in the world premiere of 'Lazurd', Julie Tolentino (Madonnas collaborator) on the 'Bottom' project, Hilton & Co, Engineers, Katherine Dowson 'Myriad Project', Okeanos Ensemble, Paul Johnson Chief Executive of Dance Ireland, international visual artist Susan Pui San Lok and a range of other artists & organisations.

Mark holds an MA in Dance Studies, a B.A (Hons) in Live Art, Dance and Drama, a PG-Cert in HE and a Diploma in Performing Arts. In 2008 Mark was awarded Teaching Fellowship from EHU in recognition of his innovative approaches to Dance and Interdisciplinary Arts Practices.

Mark is currently collaborating on a book with Dr Linda Ludwin surrounding Performativity & Gender. In 2006 & 2007 Mark was the invited expert reader for Diane Amans manuscript 'An Introduction to Community Dance Practice'. The book was published in 2008 by Palgrave Macmillan Press.

Previous choreographies include:

Falling Apart at the Seams; Stiletto Ghetto; Recovery Clinic for the Tormented Star; The Lying Bitch and the Wardrobe; Princess and the Mars bar; I’m so inbred I’m my own Daddy; What the Body Remembers; Fusion of Forms; Fist ‘n’ Mouth; Flat 6; The Fall of the House of Arden; Owch; Somewhat Unhinged; Getting’ Nowhere Fast; Why Can’t Martha Graham just **** Off ‘n’ Die?!...

Marks choreographies have been selected for British Dance Edition 2008 (BDE); Arts Festival 2008; Arts Festival 2007; DanceFest UK 2007; Arts Forum 2007; Marks of Time 2007; Leap 2007; Dance Cuts 2006; New Dance Fest; Whitworth Art Gallery; New Moves North West; Young Blood Series….

What is SANe?

Think of SANe as a meta- network, an adhocracy, for people, organisations and other networks that are working in the field of arts and social action. The only requirement for joining SANe is that you have an interest in the arts as a means for raising awareness: a way of groping towards a social mind.

SANe is supported by the Syd Barrett Fund which, amongst other things, is working towards the creation of the Syd Barrett Social Arts Centre in Cambridge, UK. More...

Our next fundraising event will be a walk from London to Cambridge. Want to come along? Find out more...

SANe, the Social Arts Network, exists to facilitate communication between people who are interested in the development of socially inclusive arts practice, services, exhibitions and productions. The network is managed by

Escape Artists but it is open to everyone. Please feel free to upload your photos, videos, music and research papers, or to start your own forum or group.

Games for Actors and Non-Actors by Augusto Boal

It's a good idea to put your photos into an album as soon as you upload them; it makes them easier to find and gives them a context. And we'd be grateful if everyone could add either a picture of themselves or a company logo to their profile. SANe Books

Visit the SANe bookstore for a great range of books on socially inclusive arts. A percentage of any book sale made through SANe is donated to Escape Artists (UK registered charity no. 1086004) and helps to pay for the costs of managing this network.

Recommend books that you think other SANe members might be interested in.
